I live about a half a mile away. Wife suggested to take out ugly little dog for a walk. He is very ugly, but he cannot help it.
Went about 7? (Sunday morning). Not crowds. Perfect weather.
We both had a medium cafe moca. Wife had a maple scone; I had a ham and cheese sandwich. Told the young man to just make a sandwich the way he would like it. Cuts down on the questions and I am not anal about a sandwich.
At first sandwich took me by surprised as it had a few cucumbers. Not used to seeing this in some breakfast sandwich. Nevertheless I tried it, and was one of the best damn breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. Far from the greasy smashed breakfast sandwiches I was used to eating.
It was very good. On a toasted bagel it also had some tomatoes, a little lettuce and of course the ham and cheese, as the name applies. Balanced very well. Light yet satisfying. Well done.
Already knew the coffee was going to be good as we have been going here for a long time. I find their coffee drinks to my liking, very much. Have had Starbucks and other well known coffee, and it seems that they have to appeal to the masses, making it sickening sweet for my taste. Common Grounds coffee has very good balance. Not too sweet w/ just enough bitter for the refined taste buds.
Great place. Early Sunday morning was a great time. Friendly staff. Great food. Great coffee.
3 stars for service
5 for coffee
The 3 stars isn't for the customer service every time. There's this one particular gentleman who works here and it seems like every time I've interacted with him he has an attitude. I don't like to complain about customer service, as I work in the customer service industry as well. And I know sometimes it can be rough, but come on, if you don't like your job quit and find a new one. It's that simple. It's not pleasant to order a coffee and receive attitude, after all, I am paying decent money. It's coffee - it's not that serious dude.
Now, let's talk coffee. I moved to Davis about a year ago and I was frustrated by the lack of decent coffee. I don't think the other upscale coffee shops in downtown compare to how good it is here at Common Grounds. The espresso never tastes burned or overly bitterly. And the drinks are never too sweet. I'm pretty picky about coffee and the fact that I can drink it black or without sugar is enough proof that it's good to me. Also the pastries and bagels are pretty good too.
Lastly, the owners are really sweet too! It's too bad that every time I interact with that guy he always has an attitude.
I don't usually study outside my apt but I love studying at this cafe. Good spacing of chairs tables and couches so you don't feel like your personal space is invaded. Plenty of outlets. Service is friendly and they have good chai lattes and assortment of desserts and food.
It's not too warm or cold. Not too loud or quiet. Music selection is also nice bathrooms clean.
Great drinks but very overpriced - especially for oat milk and other additions. Quiet and quaint atmosphere.
Really great coffee - I got just a small black coffee for $2.15 and liked it a lot. Strong, rich, good! Some of the pastries are wrapped in cellophane, which puts me off. Free the baked goods of the plastic wrap, please!
The interior space is large - sat in the back room, which has a lot of cycling shirts on display on the walls. It's a little jumbled with couches and tables and chairs around - but plenty of places to sit. I'll definitely come back for another good cup of coffee.
